A coward is incapable of exhibiting love; it is the prerogative of the brave.
Mahatma Gandhi
The VGLRL recognises that experiences and attitudes formed in schools have important impacts on the acceptance of gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer and same-sex attracted people in society and the confidence of young gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer and same sex attracted people to explore their identity free from discrimination, prejudice and abuse. Following the recent release of the Sexual Diversity In Schools brochure by the Victorian Department of Education, the Lobby believes it is an appropriate time to:
review and promote anti-homophobia campaigns in schools
ensure schools have resources to make adequate support available to gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer and same sex attracted students and teachers,
ensure clear, inclusive and unclouded sex education is provided in schools
ensure that where schools are failing their obligations to their students and teachers, these failures are highlighted and rectified.
The first meeting of the VGLRL Schools Campaign Group will be held Thursday 22nd January from 6pm at Three Degrees Bar QV - accessible via Cnr Swanston and Lonsdale Sts Melbourne.
